Dear Chris Matthews: Delay lied on your show
You have to do some reporting when you interview someone. Not much, but at least enough to keep them from lying on your program and broadcasting their lies.
Today, your discussion with Tom Delay allowed him to make numerous mistakes. And given that Tom Delay is a well-informed former Speaker of the House, these were not mistakes, but lies, because he knows the law.
Chris, you must correct these in real-time.
Delay said: "first and foremost, Chuck Schumer and Senator Leahy have to show some evidence that there is some wrong doing or something illegal. This a manufactured scandal."
Gonzales testified in front of congress that he would never fire a U.S. Attorney for political reasons (if someone has the link, let me know in the comments).
Given the evidence we already have, this appears to be a lie, which is a crime. And the White House communication documents with the DoJ, which haven't been release yet, will most likely confirm this.
And Mr. Delay, the courts, not the President, do decide if a subpoena is valid.
Chris, you have to correct mistakes like these in real-time. Otherwise you assist the lie.
Update: Crooks and Liars has more.
